Located less than a half hour from the cities of Albany and Saratoga Springs, historic Schenectady is the home of New York State's 1st historic district -- The Stockade. It is one of the oldest continuously occupied residential neighborhoods in the entire country. Visitors will see homes dating from the late 17th, through early 20th century.  A wonderful place to take a self guided tour, trolley tour, or visit during one of their events.
For those who enjoy a glimpse at diverse architectual styles including Dutch, Federal, Greek Revival, Gothic and Victorian -- Schenectady will not disappoint you.
The Electricity Arts District, located in the heart of the City of Schenectady is home to several theaters including Proctors a complex that contains an Extreme Screen I-Werks theater, a historic vauldville theater, and a small intimate theater. On any given day there is something going on --  a Broadway Show, a world reknowned comedian,  3-D I-Werks  presentation, traveling opera company, or local symphony performance! You will also find local artist studios, pottery shops, and wonderful eateries and restaurants.
The Mohawk River/Erie Canal cuts through the middle of Schenectady County and recreational opportunities along its banks can be found throughout the county. Take in waterski show, a summer concert or relax at one of the lock parks and watch the boats go by. Or you could rent a canoe or kayak and enjoy the view from the water. If you prefer you can bicycle along the Mohawk Hudson Bike Path that rides along the old tow path from one end of the county to the other.
 There's also plenty to see and do with the family. Discover the Schenectady Science Museum and  Suits-Bueche Planetarium and learn abou the history of televison or be amazed with their interactive exhibits! Visit the Mabee Farm and learn about colonial life on a farm. The Schenectady County Historical Society Museum has wonderful tours and updates their exhibits on a regular basis. Soar through the Empire State Aeroscience Museum  and experience NYS Aviation history.
